NCAA Softball Roundup 3/28/17

A great SEC matchup finished up last night, as the No. 5 Auburn Tigers defeated the No.2 Florida Gators, 1-0. The Gators were leading the three game series, 2-0 going into last night’s matchup. The first game was down to the wire as the Gators fought back from a 3-2 deficit in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs to go, Gator junior Nicole DeWitt stepped up with two runners on. DeWitt collected her first hit of the game with a single to the second base side. This hit…

NCAA Softball Roundup

Another exciting week goes by filled with NCAA Division I Softball. The top eight teams remain the same but there has been a lot of moving around in the top 25 NFCA poll. However, the main focus from this past weekend was that conference games began in the Pac 12 and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). No.3 Oregon leads the Pac 12 as they remain the lone team to be undefeated, 27-0. The Ducks defeated Cal this weekend; 5-1, 2-1 and 10-2. This conference has six teams in the top 25;…

2017 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament

As UConn’s Breanna Stewart (the first overall pick in the 2016 WNBA draft) says, “It’s better than Christmas!” Stewart is referring to a collegiate basketball fan’s favorite time of year – March Madness. On the women’s side UConn, Baylor, Univeristy of South Carolina (USC) and Notre Dame all earned the top spots in their respective regions. UConn has continued to dominate the league and remains the only team to still be undefeated at 32-0 going into the tournament. I truly believe that one of the 63 other teams will come…

Despite the top spot remaining untouched, there has been some changes to this week’s top 25 list. Dropping to No.4, previously No.2, is the Auburn Tigers. In last weeks roundup I mentioned to keep an eye on the Auburn against No. 13 LSU series. In the three game series Auburn came out with two wins, both 5-4. LSU defeated the…

Ahead of the Spread’s Player Profile: Ally Costa from Jupiter FL

It was just over 48 hours since she had thrown a perfect game against Royal Palm Beach High School when I sat down intending to write the most perfect introduction to Ahead of the Spread’s Player Profile on pitcher, Ally Costa. Jupiter High’s very own… but I couldn’t concentrate! All I could think of was Costa’s answer to my question from our phone interview Thursday afternoon. What are your personal goals for this season? Before we get to her answer, it’s important to note that Ally Costa is a senior…
