Finally Amed Makes His Debut

Finally …. Amed makes his debut Mets fans, it’s finally time for Amed Rosario to get his MLB debut. The days and hours going into the deadline were about where Asdrubal was going but the trade deadline came and went with no such move. Which again raised the question, when will Rosario be here? Shortly after the deadline, Sandy Alderson made the announcement that Rosario will be called up and debut in Colorado on Tuesday. He’s MLB Pipeline’s number 2 prospect. This season in Triple-A Las Vegas he had an…

McKay On The Mound

McKay On The Mound Brendan McKay made his professional debut on the mound yesterday. He threw only two innings but we saw why he was arguably the most talented player coming out of the draft. McKay was limited to only 31 pitches in his debut but he recorded 4 strikeouts and no hits with one walk. He hit 94 on the gun with his first pitch and never looked back. He showed some rust with a few wild pitches but he had not pitched in a game situation for over…

Cristian Nazario-Cruz Deserves To Be An All-Star

One of the few certainties in life is that every All-Star team will have a few deserving players omitted. This year’s Empire League All-Star selection committee did an outstanding job identifying the players who have performed at a level worthy of celebration. But, of course, this article would not have been published were it not for the one man who will not be recognized this Sunday in Plattsburgh. The absence of Cristian Nazario-Cruz is my only issue with this year’s roster. Nazario-Cruz finished the first half with a .417 On…

Magic Number: 3

The ‘Birds dropped both ends of today’s double header. The loan bright spot came after the game when Raul Shah was seen walking unassisted after leaving the game with an apparent ankle injury. Shah is currently the leading All-Star vote getter amount infielders. With just five games remaining in the first half of the Empire League’s regular season the Redbirds magic number has dwindled down to just three games. The first half crown would guarantee the Redbirds a berth in the Empire League Championship Series at the end of August….

Redbirds Drop First Half Of Twin Bill

It was down to the wire at Chip Cummings as the ‘Birds dropped Game 1 of our scheduled double header 1-0. Matthias Layva, who was just activated this morning, was able to get into the 5th inning with only one run allowed, but that’s all the Islanders would need. Eddie Malone had two of the four ‘Birds hits while Kenny Collins and Raul Shah each added one of their own. They did not have a runner reach second base until the 6th inning. The series finale starts in less than…

‘Birds Win The Day Behind Big Arms

Wendell Floranus was as brilliant as advertised. He coasted through all seven innings without allowing a run while only surrendering two hits. Daniel Roeser drove in two of the Bird’s five runs. Johnny Cole smashed three hits and newly acquired Eddie Malone added two hits of his own, including a ringing double off the left field fence. As the Birds continue to inch toward the first-half crown and a guaranteed spot in the championship series, one can only have hope in their power pitching rotation. Nuñez, Doxter, and Floranus would…
