(1)Gonzaga +1.5 vs (1)North Carolina
Whenever a pair of one seeds meet in the National Championship, it’s usually between championship favorites setting up a clash of titans. However, Gonzaga is new to this stage as they’re playing in their first National Championship game after exiting early in previous years, even when having a favorable seed. Mark Few has never been able to get to the mountain top, but this might be his best chance yet. These two teams match up well as they both have size and skill in the front-court paired with great guard play on the perimeter. Joel Berry and Justin Jackson pace the offense for Carolina and can score in bunches while Nigel Williams-Goss and Przemek Karnowski are a lethal pick & roll combination for Gonzaga. Both squads are experienced and can play the run and gun style or execute in the half-court depending on how the game is played. Usually both teams win the rebounding battle against opponents, but UNC has yet to play a team this season with the size Gonzaga has up front. Gonzaga has multiple scoring options and can play inside or out, which they displayed in their win against South Carolina. UNC is a great team that’s been on a mission in this tournament, but just like last year, I think they’ll lose in a heartbreaking fashion with Mark Few and his Bulldogs finally getting that National Championship monkey off their back.
The Pick: Gonzaga +1.5
