NCAA Softball Update from Dani Rafuse

Another exciting weekend of college softball is in the books. Yesterday afternoon, the USA Today and NFCA Coaches released their most recent top 25 poll.

Staying in at the one spot is Florida State. The Seminoles had a 3-0 weekend against Georgia Tech, winning 4-0, 13-8, and 8-0. Rolling in at No. 2 was last years runner-ups, Auburn University. The Tigers swept their opponents this weekend to have an overall record of 19-2.

No.3 in this week’s poll is the Florida Gators. In the Thursday game against Iowa, senior Delanie Gourley threw a perfect game with only 62 pitches. On their 5-0 weekend, the Gators earned wins from two ranked teams: No. 10 UCLA ,9-4, and No. 23 California, 4-0.

As we are going into week four of the NCAA softball season, only two teams remain undefeated. Coming in at the four spot is the 19-0 Oregon Ducks. The Ducks took two games this weekend from No. 24 Missouri, 10-3 and 7-2. Moving up in the rankings is the 18-0 Minnesota Gophers. The Gophers, previously ranked tenth, move up to the seven spot in this week’s poll.

Last year’s Women’s College World Series Champions, the No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners, are on a season high six game winning streak. Five wins came during this weekend’s Courtyard Marriott Tournament in Norman, Okla.
The games to watch this weekend would have to be the three-game series happening between the No. 12 LSU Tigers and the No. 2 Auburn Tigers. All three games are happening in Auburn, Ala. and can be watched on the SEC network. Friday’s game is at 6 p.m., Saturay’s game is at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s game is at 4 p.m, all in central time.

You can check out the rest of the top 25 here:   and good luck to all of the teams this weekend!
