Brendan McKay was selected 4th overall in the 2017 MLB draft. McKay will pitch and hit at Tampa Bay’s short season affiliate, the Hudson Valley Renegades.
At Louisville McKay racked up 109 innings in the regular season with an impressive 11-3 record and a 2.56 ERA. He also had 146 strike outs to only 35 walks. On the other side of the ball, McKay batted .341 with 18 homeruns and 57 RBI’s.
While he may not go to the majors as both a pitcher and a hitter it will certainly be impressive to watch while it lasts. McKay is definitely one of the top two way talents to ever be drafted. He is also considered by many to be one of the top college baseball players the game has ever seen. His professional career started with an 0-4 as the DH in the Renegades lineup last night but there is definitely special stuff coming from Brendan McKay.
