Typically Thursday night games carry as much anticipation as going to the dentist. Sure we watch, but do we watch because it’s good football. Nope. We watch because we either love football, bet on football or my personal favorite love football while also betting on the games. Tonight satisfies all needs.
The Steelers have been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde team. They are at their best when Le’Veon Bell gets the ball 25 to 30 times a game. Ben Roethlisberger is a no doubt Hall of Fame guy, but the man is washed. Antonio Brown (and now rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster) have done their best job masking Big Ben’s washedness but the fact remains.
Running the ball against the Titans will be a tall task. The Titans defense only surrenders 3.6 yards per rush attempt, good for fourth in the league. Le’Veon is such an elite talent that he will rack up yards regardless. On the flip side the Titans offense is all about running starting from their elusive QB, Marcus Mariota. With DeMarco Murray (three touchdowns last week) and Derrick Henry flanking him, Mariota will have every opportunity to succeed against a Steelers offense that gives up 4.6 yards per rush attempt.
This game will be won by who is the most effective through the air. Both teams can run the football, we know that. The Steelers are second best in the league against the pass while the Titans rank in the bottom half of the league. Big Ben will have to make some throws to take this one and there is no doubt he is capable.
Take the points here but the Steelers should win this game. In prime time home games Big Ben is a sterling 18-3.
Prediction: Titans 24, Steelers 28
