WWE Backlash RECAP May 21, 2017

Aiden English vs. Tye Dillinger (Kickoff Show)

Tye Dillinger came out as Aiden English was singing and about to start an encore. It looked as though English had control early in the match. Dillinger quickly turned the tides after escaping the hold of English. Tye Dillinger comes back and hits Aiden English with Tye Breaker. Tye Dillinger keeps his momentum heading forward.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

The long wait for Shinsuke Nakamura has finally begun, this was his first appearance on SmackDown Live. The match started out slow, both were feeling each other out. During the match Dolph lured Nakamura out of the ring and set him up for a neck breaker. Dolph stayed in control taunting Nakamura. Both opponents go back and forth trying to pin the other. Nakamura had to have kicked out of at least seven pin tries from Ziggler. Shinsuke Nakamura came out with the win after a hard fought match, in which it didn’t look like Nakamura would make it.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship: Breezango vs. The Usos (c)

The match started with Tyler Breeze dressed as a janitor and he used a mop against the Usos. He then changed into a dress and a wig with a cane to look like a grandmother. No team really took control in the beginning due to the awkwardness of Breezango, especially Tyler Breeze. Breezango gained some control but The Usos quickly took it back. Jey Uso ended the match with a super kick to Fandango.

Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin shows his power early but Sami Zayn is a fan favorite with a huge heart. Baron Corbin was in control for most of the match and injured Sami Zayn’s lower back and went at it the entire time. Sami Zayn looked liked he’d be pinned several times but showed his heart and he wasn’t going to quit. Sami Zayn beat Baron Corbin with a Helluva Kick out of nowhere for the win. This was an exciting match with two very good wrestlers.

Carmella, Tamina, and Natalya vs. Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Naomi

First let me just say I am not a fan of James Ellsworth. Tamina started things off against Becky Lynch. The match was ok but I wasn’t too impressed. The match went back and forth but it was a short match with not a lot of excitement. Carmella, Tamina, and Natalya got the win when Natalya got Becky Lynch to tap out when she applied the Sharpshooter.

United States Championship: AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens

It seemed that Kevin Owens really had control the entire match. Owens had his attention on the leg of AJ Styles. Kevin Owens wins by count out. AJ Styles fought but couldn’t overcome Kevin Owens. Owens retains the United States Championship.

Luke Harper vs. Erick Rowan

Rowan started the match aggressive, he was the one that wanted this match at BackLash. Rowan hit a dropkick and got Harper to a two count. Time and time again Rowan tried to pump himself up by looking and talking to his mask. Harper put Rowan away with a spinning elbow. The crowd wasn’t too into this match but it was a decent match.

WWE Championship: Randy Orton (c) vs. Jinder Mahal

Jinder Mahal won. I refuse to write about this match it was complete crap. Jinder Mahal is from Canada not India. He can’t do anything without the Singh brothers. Mahal had no right to win this match. I’m very upset with the WWE.
